Democrat Demographics

An interesting aside to last nights primaries is how the vote is breaking down.  Senator Obama wins the black vote, the youth vote, and weathy elite vote.  Senator Clinton wins women and the middle working class and older voters.  This provides a guide to who Senator McCain can target in the general election.  Assuming Senator Obama is the Democratic candidate, Senator McCain can target groups that already held potential for him; the middle class, hispanics, women, seniors, and Catholics.  Republicans should be encouraged that they picked a candidate that plays so well to these groups, as several other of the former Republican candidates would have had a harder time with some these niches.

With each Democratic primary the number of supporters that says they won’t vote for the other Democratic candidate in the general election increases.  It’s a crazy election.  Who would have thought a candidates former pastor would harm their friend (or former friend’s) chances of winning the election, but that is what Reverend Wright has done, he’s changed the demographics with the help of Senator Obama’s ‘bitter comments’.  Many Republicans were chomping at the bit to run against Senator Clinton and worried about Senator Obama, but know the stats show a real window of opportunity for Senator McCain.

Well it looks like the Democratic primary race is starting to come to an end. I’ve always liked Hillary, but unfortunately there are too many conflicting forces within the party. She does best with the older generation, predominantly women, some men, all working class people, Catholics and Hispanics. (sound familiar?) There is a deep divide within the Democratic Party. The Obama people aknowledge this but don’t really know the extent of it. Most Hillary supporters are firmly convinced that she would make a good President, but they are equally convinced that Obama would not. Throughout all of the Democratic blogs he is tagged as unpatriotic, unethical, radical, hateful (because of his association with Rev Wright) and I could go on but you get the point. Its clear to me that the center left Hillary supporters will come in large numbers to vote for John McCain. This may turn out to be one of his more significant target groups in November, and could be the turning point in getting him elected. If he can somehow bridge the gap with the Right Wing of the Party, he will be unbeatable.

As a lifelong Democrat and a die-hard Senator Clinton supporter, I thought hell would freeze over before I could vote for a Republican. Well, grab your coats because it’s about to get real cold! I promise that if Hillary Clinton is not the Democratic nominee, I will vote (and possibly campaign) for Senator John McCain. I am not a racist (as Obamabots like to claim) and I am neither white, working class, or Hispanic. I’m a highly educated, highly compensated, Asian American female that is angry about the extreme left wing’s destruction of the Democratic party I once loved so fervently. There is definitely a deep divide between the Democratic party between the McGovern losers on the left and the Clinton legacy in the center. The majority in this great country are moderates - not left wing liberals or right wing conservatives. What Senator Obama and his supporters don’t understand is that Clinton supporters are really angry and we WILL vote for John McCain because he is experienced, qualified, patriotic, decent, and a moderate. We (the Democratic Center) will NEVER vote for Obama because he lacks not only the experience to be president, but also the judgment and character. We will not vote for someone with such despicable associations to racists and terrorists just because of the color of his skin. We will never forgive him for playing the race card and accusing the Clintons (who have spent a lifetime fighting for civil rights) of being racists. Even Republicans who have called the Clintons every dirty name in the book, have never stooped as low as to call them racists. Obama’s white liberal guilt strategy will never work on me! If the Republican Party and John McCain want to win this November, they need to move their party to the center. They can win our votes. Just show Senator Clinton and her supporters the respect that Obama, the Democratic Elite and the misogynistic Obama press core never showed to us.

don’t really know the extent of it? Im sure the obama camp knows a little bit more then you do ncjack. Everyone will vote for obama because nobody wants to see another bush in the whitehouse! Obama will make history, deal with it…

My sister is a die hard Clinton supporter who was not terribly amused that I by my support Senator McCain, but she has said that she’s unsure if she’ll vote Obama. While I’d be pretty surprised if she voted Republican in the end, she illustrates the large chunk of Clinton supporters who are not satisfied with Senator Obama.
