Barack Obama on Hamas

From Reuters

“That’s why I have a fundamental difference with President Carter and disagree with his decision to meet with Hamas,” Obama said. “We must not negotiate with a terrorist group intent on Israel’s destruction. We should only sit down with Hamas if they renounce terrorism, recognize Israel’s right to exist and abide by past agreements.”

“Hamas is not a state. Hamas is a terrorist organization,” he said.

I’ve covered this before. This is one of the precious few things Barack Obama is actually right about. American Presidents, past, present or future, should not justify Hamas by appearing with them.

However, Senator Obama cannot even stay consistent on the reasons why he won’t talk to Hamas. He claims its because they are terrorists bent on Israel’s destruction.

But he’ll have tea with Mahmoud Admadinejad.

Senator Obama doesn’t offer any clear reason as to why its okay to chit-chat with a man who wants to ‘wipe Israel off the map,’ but Allah at Hot Air has the best answer I’ve seen. Iran is a country. which magically makes you legitimate and not a terrorist sponsor.

This is the same incoherent litmus test he mentioned a few days ago, transparently designed to let him to talk to Iran — a sovereign state, after all, but otherwise guilty of the same sins he lists vis-a-vis Hamas — while ignoring Hamas lest it put him on the wrong side of pro-Israel voters. Let’s pretend to take him seriously. What if Hamas declared a jihadist state tomorrow in Gaza? What magical power would derive in his view from the mantle of statehood that would suddenly render them non-terrorist?

Barack Obama is dangerously naive.

At least he made up his mind. As of yesterday he didn’t want to say anything about private citizen Carter and didn’t know what he thought. I wonder if he has a “brain” stashed somewhere like Reagan did where he can go back and check with it and then issue a statement.

Clearly Obama isn’t ready for, or qualified for, Presidency. His ideas on international relations are very unclear, just like everything else he says.

[...] Hugo Chavez of course sponsors terrorism in Columbia, but Senator Obama is keeping their playdate on his Mad Man World Tour because he meets Senator Obama’s bizarre Head of State exemption for terrorism enablers (see: Ahmadinejad, Mahmoud) [...]
