Pork Ammedment Goes Down in Flames
29-71 sez Ed Morrissey.
I’m not sure anyone thought it would be quite that ugly.
The good news is, if the American public is outraged about this (and make no mistake, the Republicans are just as responsible as the Democrats) they know they only have one Presidential candidate that will fight all he can to end this.
Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were clearly just paying lip service to this amendment for political gain. John McCain has made this a cornerstone of his congressional career.

This Pork Amendment should have gone down in flames. John McCain is being somewhat ingenuous about this issue. Surely he must know that there are earmarks and there are earmarks. Those earmarks inserted in bills in the middle of the night for dubious projects are the ones we should be concerned about. Earmarks that are carefully vetted by Congressional staffers, that must be supported by an approving government agency, and are openly revealed by Senators and Congressman, do not fall in the same category. So the proposal to ban earmarks is really just a political stunt, and assumes that one size fits all. I suppose John can be proud of not bringing any earmarks to his home district if he so chooses, but in my district earmarks are viewed quite differently and he wouldn’t win re-election once.
